Methodology
How we audit a website
Every SEORecheck report is built the same way: evidence from your own pages, a check of every finding against that evidence, priorities by impact, and rechecks on the same pages and rules. Here is what that means — and what the audit does not do.
From your URL to a report
- 01
Collect the evidence
An automated analysis crawls your site politely — one request at a time, at least 1.5 seconds apart, respecting robots.txt. It opens key pages in a real mobile and desktop browser, measures speed with Lighthouse, reads robots.txt and the sitemap, and looks at search results and competitors for your main topics.
- 02
Choose the page sample
Large sites are not crawled in full. The audit takes a sample that covers your page types — home page, categories or services, products, articles — and the report says how the sample was chosen and which URLs it contains.
- 03
Check every finding
The SEORecheck team prepares the report and checks every finding against the saved evidence before anything is sent. A confirmed issue, a recommendation and a hypothesis are labelled differently, so you know how sure each one is.
- 04
Set the priorities
Confirmed issues are ordered critical, high, medium, low — by their impact on search visibility and on your business, and by effort. Each has the affected URLs, the cause, the fix with steps for your platform, and how to check that the fix worked.
- 05
Recheck the same pages
A recheck runs the same pages through the same rules and the same lab profile, and marks every check as fixed, improved, unchanged, worse or new. If the pages or rules had to change, the report says the comparison is not like-for-like.
The measured index (your score)
The index summarises 10 fixed rules measured on the sample: 9 page checks and the mobile lab performance of one representative page. The rules and weights are the same for every site and every recheck, so a recheck shows real change, not a new formula.
It is our diagnostic of the sample — not a Google score and not a ranking forecast. Content, competitors, structured data, links and AI search are assessed in words, not in the number.
When too little could be measured — fewer than 3 sample pages, 2 pages in a real browser, three comparable mobile Lighthouse runs or 80 % weighted check coverage — the report publishes no number at all rather than a misleading one.
What the audit looks at
- Public data — no access needed
- Your pages and their HTML, status codes and redirects, canonical and hreflang tags, robots.txt, the sitemap, structured data, Lighthouse lab speed, search results and competitors’ pages. We never ask for passwords.
- Bing and Microsoft Copilot
- The same pages go through the checks Bing Webmaster Tools shows. Copilot and Bing’s AI answers draw on the Bing index, and some of Bing’s rules are stricter than Google’s.
- AI search (GEO)
- Whether the crawlers of ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot may read your pages, whether snippet limits keep you out of AI answers, how much text is visible without JavaScript and how clearly your brand is described. Shown as checks passed — never as an invented “AI score”.
- Your Google data — optional
- If you connect Google Search Console or Google Analytics with read-only access, the report adds your real search queries, clicks and traffic, including visits from AI assistants. Real Chrome user speed data (Chrome UX Report) is shown next to the lab data when Chrome has enough traffic for it.
What you get at each step
- Free preview
- Your score, the main problem areas and several real issues with examples from your pages. No payment, no obligation to buy.
- Full report
- Every finding with the affected URLs, cause, fix and check; steps for your platform; Bing, Copilot and AI search chapters; a prioritized plan. Online and as PDF, for a one-time payment with a 14-day usefulness guarantee.
- Recheck
- The same website on the same pages and rules, compared with the previous audit check by check.
- Not included
- Making the fixes. The report says which ones you can do in your admin yourself and which to hand to a developer.
What the audit does not do
- It does not guarantee rankings, traffic or citations in AI answers: search engines and AI assistants decide those.
- It checks a sample of pages, not every URL of a large site; the report lists what was and wasn’t checked, and why.
- Lab speed is measured on a simulated slow phone; it is not the speed every visitor gets.
- Without your Search Console it cannot see which pages Google has actually indexed or which queries bring clicks; the report marks such points as hypotheses, not confirmed issues.
- It never logs in to your admin and never changes anything on your website.
